You are only a 25 minutes drive from the beaches and shopping complexes on the coast. A regular bus runs 3 times a day to the sandy beach at Torre del Mar from the village. Catch the bus outside the village tourist information centre, near the large carpark. Once you are down on the coast you can walk the esplanade in Torre del Mar with lots of bars and restaurants along this stretch. The market is on Thursdays. There is a large water park here, opposite the large shopping mall. There is also an eighteen hole golf course here at Baveria.
Torrox Costa is also a 30 minute drive, with a sandy beach, promenade, bars and restauants. It also boasts of having the best climate in Europe with an average temperature of 18 degrees. Its market is on a Monday. The village of Nerja with it's coves and caves is 10 minutes further away.
When staying in the village of Competa it is a short walk to the two local swimming pools,
restaurants and shops.
You do not need a car for this property as you can travel from the airport to the village by taxi. All facilities are
provided locally. There are 5 or 6 different supermarkets of varying sizes, about 30 to 40 bars and restaurants,
an internet cafe, 3 banks, numerous estate agents, gift and clothing shops, hairdressers, DIY stores... indeed all
that modern life entails.
For real swimming experiences we have two options. Firstly the long established Hotel Balcon has a beautiful
double pool/bar area five minutes stroll away. Entrance to this is by a pre pay day pass (from reception), which gives you
multiple entry, towel and sun lounger. Secondly the village townhall has constructed an all year
round heated international sized swimming pool. With a retractable roof and phenomenal views from the surrounding terraces
this is another great local facility. It really comes into it's own during the shoulder seasons when its
cooler and the Balcon pool is closed. Lots of other English speaking children visit these pools,
and holiday friends are easily made.
There is a market each Saturday morning, with food, plants, clothes, sweets etc... Competa celebrates many festivals, of which the
two most important are the Noche del Vino on the 14th August and Semana Santa the week before Easter. The village has many artists of
different types, and a cosmopolitan atmosphere. Opposite Villa Conchi is Sugar and Spice, a shop selling many beautiful souvenirs
and British food stuffs. Competa is surrounded by olive, orange and avocado groves and there are many walks through them along
the tracks in the surrounding hills.
