If you are lucky enough, you might be present in Competa on August 15th. This is the towns nationally recognized annual wine festival. Noche de Vino, "night of the wine" is a wonderful time for walkers to be out and about experiencing the medieval markets, wine tasting, grape crushing, amongst the company of thousands of people to make for an incredibly real spanish town atmosphere. With the agriculture producing grapes all around Competa, the town has quite a unique taste of locally made wines. Competa wine is a dulce vino, "sweet wine" that is favored by the locals. The crushing of the grapes is a special time of the day where people step on the grapes mashing them as a tribute to "Nuestra senora de Asuncion."
